Shallow cored drum with reverse tapered ebonite handle and three screw spring drum latch, off-set ribbed brass foot, milled rim tension screw and Mk.II check mechanism,  nickel silver rectangular four screw line guide, backplate stamped make and model details, interior stamped “J.S.” (Jimmy Smith), reel retains much of the original dark lead finish, 1930’s (see illustration)
