curved crank winding arm with turned bone handle, domed iron locking screw and engraved “Exhibition 1851”, faceplate elaborately scroll engraved flowering thistle decoration, beehive and a shield shaped cartouche flanged by two salmon and engraved makers details “J.K. Farlow, Maker, 5 Crooked Lane, London Bridge”, rear raised check housing also elaborately scroll engraved flowering thistle decoration, block foot and triple cage pillars with rear blind locking nuts, the present vendor had the reel professionally cleaned some years ago, it is in excellent overall condition and is sold with a (later) C. ** Produced for the 1851 Great Exhibition, a similar folding handle example can be seen on the cover of One Man, One Rod at The British Engineerium (pub. 1982) and detailed as item 186 in the catalogue, though, incorrectly stated in the description as being solid silver, this example and the other two we are aware of having been made for the exhibition were produced as heavily silver plated examples. The London tackle maker John King Farlow operated from the 5 Crooked Lane address for the relatively short period of 1843-1856
