lures display around a central papier mache, glass eyed half fish model and including a Gregory Cleopatra white metal lure, three silk bound Devil baits (illustrated T.F. Salter: The Angler’s Guide, 1825), two Warner stamped and two further facetted cut glass baits, two Edkin hollow glass lures, an Allcock  no.541 gilt fish bait, two coil baits, five Caledonian style gutta percha glass eyed baits in graduated sized, other gutta percha baits, phantom and Soleskin minnows, five graduated Water-Witch weighted bait mounts et al, mounted on cream card backboard within a refreshed green and black lined paper mount and with a rectangular stepped glazed oak display frame, 19 ¾” x 33 ¼” overall (see illustration)

Description

** The above shop display frame was originally on show in Wyer Frères shop at 30 Quai du louvre, Paris around the turn of the 19th/20th Century along with 17 other similar tackle/bait displays. The cases were sold along with the shop in the 1980’s and this case was first offered for sale by Christie’s as part of the Anissa El Helou collection in 1999 and later re-sold as part of the Graham Turner Collection through Angling Auctions in March 2011, the history of the cases is detailed in Turner G: Fishing tackle, the Ultimate Collector’s Guide, pgs. 694-717
